Your Appointment

Once you have seen your GP and they have referred you to our community dermatology service for further assessment, our specialist team will review your individual case using the information your GP has provided, this may include looking at photographs of your condition.

We will then contact you with details of an appointment, by letter, telephone call or text message.

Who Will I See?

You will be seen by doctors who have specific clinical skills in the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions.

Our clinicians are supported by consultant colleagues to manage patients with more complex or more severe skin conditions.

Find our more about our team here.

Medical students and trainee clinicians occasionally join our clinics to enhance their practical experience and expand their knowledge. While they observe as bystanders during appointments, their presence is not intended to influence the care you receive. If you would prefer that this individual leaves the room, please feel free to request it. Your comfort and preferences are important to us.

Skin Surgery

Skin biopsies and excisions of skin lesions are performed in our Skin Surgery Clinics.  These procedures are done under local anaesthetic, take about 30minutes to do, and you will be able to drive afterwards.

Some patients will be booked directly into a Skin Surgery appointment, others will have a initial assessment and a second biopsy appointment.

Patients who need more complex skin surgery will be referred to other skin surgery services.

After your appointment

Ongoing care

Many long-term skin conditions tend to come and go.  We will advise you and your GP how best to continue to manage your condition, prevent and treat flare-ups.

If needed, we will be able to offer you a review of your condition either within 12 weeks of your referral, or if your GP refers you to us for a further assessment.

In some cases, we may refer you to secondary care for further assessment.
