Service Overview

  • Assessment and management to achieve improvement of common skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis, actinic keratosis, Bowen’s disease, acne, nail disorders, scalp disorders
  • Diagnosis and management of more complex skin disease like blistering disorders, erythemas, drug reactions
  • Dermoscopy (skin microscopy) assessment of moles and other pigmented lesions
  • Cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen spray treatment) for actinic keratosis, resistent warts and other lesions
  • Consultant Dermatologist assessment and management
  • Oral Systemic Isotretinoin (Roaccutane ) treatment for acne and other skin conditions
  • Oral Systemic treatment with disease modifying drugs for severe, resistent eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions
  • Direct access to hospital based treatments/investigations like patch testing, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy
  • Skin diseases affecting children
  • Skin diseases affecting the genital area
  • One-stop procedures (ie procedures done on the day of the appointment) including surgical removal of low grade skin cancer lesions, diagnostic biopsies, removal of troublesome benign lesions
  • Quick direct access to complex skin surgery to have high grade BCCs, or other lesions removed in Kendal by surgical team led by Dr White, Cumbria Medical Services
  • Subcutaneous steroid injection treatment for suitable alopecia areata, keloid scars, nail disorders
  • Patients with suspected Malignant Melanoma or Squamous Cell Carcinoma will be referred to our local skin cancer service, University Hospital Morecambe Bay Trust on a 2 week-wait referral pathway.
  • A clinic letter will give clear information about diagnosis, investigations, treatment and follow-up, as well as advice for the patient and GP in managing the condition in primary care as appropriate.
  • As skin disease can remit and relapse, patients will be given access to telephone advice if appropriate and urgent assessment can be arranged on the day of the clinic.
  • Domiciliary visits are possible by special arrangement.
